First time “NDAers”

Filed under: Rant | 30 Comments

Looking through all the new TypePad weblogs, you find a lot of people that have never been under an NDA before. You can always tell because they start off by saying one of the following:

  • “I can’t say much”
  • “Well, did I mention that I can’t say much?”
  • “So I’m under an NDA”
  • “I’d love to share how cool TypePad is, but I can’t say much”

I’m only half exagerating with the “I can’t say much” stuff.

More references will be added as I find more TypePad blogs… It’s now limited to a selection of 10 20. If you’ve got one, comment baby. (Ed. note – thanks for all the comments… If you have a TypePad, please drop your URL off at the door stop)

Lawver (boring, I know, but it’s beta, what’re you gonna do?). I love the mobile stuff, so I’m wearing out my new sidekick posting pictures. I’m about to start e-mailing text posts next. Love your domain. That’s guaranteed to get some attention.

  2. Tom Bridge says:

Yeah, I realize it’s been an while since I was NDA’d as well…and as a result, I’m marking myself carefully because TypePad is cool and I don’t wanna catch the boot, but some of this stuff (the Photo Albums) is almost too cool NOT to talk about.

Kevin: Heh–Gotta love the Sidekick! I wish I had a camera on my phone (T68i). Ugh. Oh well. I love the domain too… Took a little while to think of. I knew I wanted something that Ben and Mena would get a laugh over. As long as Ben doesn’t beat me up, I’m good :).

Tom: It’s hard for sure. I usually just point people to the screenshots on TypePad.com. They show off how amazingly sexy it is and I don’t have to feel guilty.

  4. filchyboy says:

I’m not sure I understand your post. I’ve been under several NDAs in the past. I would like to blog the process of trying this system out. It is frustrating as I have always made my notes public about these types of tools.

  5. Jon Gales says:

Filchyboy: I wasn’t really talking about you… I was just noting the number of people “name dropping” that they were under an NDA.

  6. filchyboy says:

I understand. I believe I mentioned it here.

I hadn’t thought of it as a name drop. But I think you are correct, in some fashion.

  7. lavonne says:

    color me guilty.

  8. Raymond says:

I am guilty! I posted that because I was under NDA I couldn’t talk about the TypePad beta. My reason for doing so however is because a lot of people have been asking me questions via e-mail if I have heard about TypePad and if I got on the beta and if I did what I can show them. Well frankly I’d love to show screen shots and talk about the AWESOME and AMAZING features that it has. However I can not do that and I have to explain that out for people. Not only that but I write for a new magazine coming out in August called “blogging! magazine” and I’d love to tell the readers all about TypePad in it however that is not possible. However I look at the positive and say “Hey when it comes out I will have a head start” and will be able to show readers a lot of cool secrets and stuff I’ve learned. I do realize that a lot could change between now and 1.0 however from what I’m seeing this is turning out to be a great product and I will for sure be subscribing to it… even if I am broke and need a full time job or something 😉

  9. Raymond says:

    P.S
Not to seem annoying however I forgot to mention this is about the sixth time I have been under an NDA. Jon, I really like your blog thus far and will add it to my blogroll soon. :>

  10. Jon Gales says:

Man, I’m loving finding all these TypePad sites! I hope they publish a list once it goes golden master… Especially with a little logic to it.

Raymond: You may want to ask Six Apart, they might be willing to let you publish certain caps (like the ones they show off on TypePad.com). They don’t seem like the types to turn down free PR.

    Keep the discussion going!

  11. Raymond says:

Oh yes I am going to be contacting them as this new magazine gets closer to going golden. I’m quite busy with it right now. I agree with you in that they most likely will not have a large problem with the using of screencaps from the TypePad site. I’ll be contacting them ASAP. Something that has amazed me is how fast they read those support tickets we put in. I’m trying to report as many bugs as I find because I want to make sure this platform is really rockin. I have a few comments on things I’d change but I guess I won’t be talking about them for the time being ;). I am however sending those in my reports and they have been very welcoming to them and helpful at showing they do appreciate the feedback.

I also like the idea of them having a list for all of these great TypePad sites. I hope that is something they consider.

  12. Jon Gales says:

A statistics thing like UserLand has might be fun.

Also, a highlight site like MovableType has would be fun. I was honored when they chose MobileTracker a few months ago.

  13. Raymond says:

I feel inspired. I’m setting up a TypePad based blog called @TypePad right now where I plan on linking to other TypePad blogs and the interesting stories that they maybe posting. Plus I am going to start a TypeList to post on my *.RAY testing blog and the new @TypePad blog that contains links to TypePad managed sites.

  14. Richie says:

Hi Jon. I’m a MobileTracker and MacMerc fan too. 🙂

Looking forward to Raymond’s @TypePad blog.

  15. marc says:

    Jon,

About the t68i phone, you can get a camera for the phone! Just get the attachment. Its pretty cool for the price (buy the MCA-20 on EBAY for around $40)

Most of my moblog was taken on my t68i phone:

  16. Jon Gales says:

Whoa not bad on eBay. New they are pretty pricy. I’ll have to check it out! Thanks!

  17. Anil says:

Good news, we’ll be lifting the NDA and letting you blog about Typepad *really* soon, sorry to leave you guys muted for right now.

  18. Kyle says:

It never even occurred to me to talk about TypePad .. I was too excited talking about me bahahahaha. 🙂

  19. Okay, yeah, so I’m new to the whole NDA thing, too. Here’s my guilty post. 😉

  20. david says:

My blog is at hello.typepad.com. I think the NDA is reasonable, although I wish I could show more the technology to my co-workers!

  21. Art Oglesby says:

I thought beta testers were probably everyone who filled out the questionaire – like a free trial. Quite the coincidence that my acceptance came one week before I was due to re-up another year at Userland. I like it here but need a newbies dictionary to understand all the jargon.

  22. Raymond says:

    Hey everyone!
I just wanted to let you know the promised @TypePad site is online and if you feel like mentioning it on your blog I’d love to have you over 🙂
Also I’ll be posting stuff constantly starting Monday to the site. Like 24/7 entries all the time. I guess that would be a real test of TypePad 😉

Anyways the new @TypePad site is at:
    http://rayangel.blogs.com/typepad/

  23. Thomas says:

NDA? What’s that? Never heard of that word.

(Is this the best strategy? 😉 )

  24. trav says:

This, I must say, is my first NDA. What a way to pop a cherry.

  25. Jesper says:

Thomas: “Non-Disclosure Agreement” (read: Don’t squeal or you’ll be sleeping with the fishes) and probably not.

  26. Jerry says:

    Not Guilty. Whew! =)

  27. Vasta says:

Ah, the joys of the NDA. But I can’t say much about that either.

But I do love TypePad, big change from my former Blogger addiction.

  28. *.RAY says:

    Non Disclosure Agreement

Jon Gales says: Looking through all the new TypePad weblogs, you find a lot of people that have never been under an NDA before. You can always tell Full Entry >> Interesting point he brings up on that subject. I

    First time “NDA’ers”

Yeah, I did it too. Hey, this is cool — shouldn’t we be allowed to have fun with it? 😉
