Sound Scan report costs

I was interested to see how much Sound Scan reports cost… You have to request pricing info, which usually means that there will be sticker shock. There was. Not sure what all the different levels mean, but nothing is cheap:

  • Ltd. Access package – $1,595.00 per quarter 1-time report for 1 title for $650.00.
  • “Indie Basics” package – $3,000.00 per 13 weeks and the package provides sales, airplay, first play email alerts and merged info for marketing your record.
  • Full access to the TITLE section online starts at $7,950.00 per quarter
  • Full access to the Entire system starts at $14,950.00 per quarter.

My dreams of having insider info are over. Wonder what the TV ratings start at?

Sound Scan is a way to see what music is being bought. Most retailers send their sales data into the mix. I am not sure if they get paid for this or not. If they don’t, Sound Scan may just be the most profitable business ever.

They don’t. But record companies won’t spend co-op ad dollars or send promos to stores that don’t report so most of them jump at the chance to.

Additionally, soundcan numbers are some of the most shared info ever. There’s about 3 passwords that 200 labels use, and people fax numbers all over the place.

Tinzley…Most CD Duplicator (Semi to Pro ones) will provide you a bar code and register it with the cost of dublicating your CD but ask first.

Buy a Book Called “EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS” it has a whole section on it a gives you a list of Artist Copyright Co’s such as ASCAP and others and how to get in contact with them.
