Birthday [again]

Another day, another birthday. This is the fourth that I have recorded on this website. See 19, 20 and 21 for more info. Despite the 3GSM madness I got sufficiently drunk at the neighborhood bar tonight, which is always a good time. Especially when you don’t have to pay because it’s your birthday… Thanks Scott! I’m really not into celebration for silly things like birthdays (e.g. parties and gifts), but I’m not above free tequila shots. Nobody should be.

Here’s to another year! Bigger and better things ahead.

Albuquerque is hard to spell

Filed under: Personal | No Comments »

I’m going to Albuquerque next week and no matter how many times I have looked it up I have never spelled it right. Only thanks to Google can I actually find the real place. It’s bringing back flashbacks of being a terrible speller growing up.

Word of the day: anosmia

Filed under: Personal | No Comments »

I’ve wondered a few times what it’s called when you can’t smell. The answer is anosmia. People with the condition are called anosmic. Most people that can’t smell have the ability to taste, but without the added effect that smell adds (it probably is similar to when you have a cold and can only detect basic tastes). As far as losing a sense go, anosmics have it pretty easy. Gas leaks would be pretty scary, but hosting Dirty Jobs would be a cinch.

Cilantro, a divisive herb

Filed under: Personal | No Comments »

I did a bit of research on cilantro (AKA coriander leaves) today after using it with rice for some fajitas*. Apparently there is a subset of people that have an extreme adversion to the herb. Some people think it’s genetic, that only a small percentage of people can taste a [foul tasting] chemical in the plant. One of those people created I Hate Cilantro, which I found hilarious. Most people that dislike the flavor explain it as tasting like soap or metal. I fall in the majority on this one and enjoy the fresh flavor and citrus accent.

* I made cilantro lime rice to go along with chicken fajitas. It was delicious and did not taste like soap. I braved wind and rain to grill the chicken (which I marinated in adobo spices and a hot salsa). Totally worth it.

2006

The past year went by in a blur for me. I had high expectations for the year and they were exceeded, which is more than you can ask for. My big goal for 2006 is to become a homeowner. That will hopefully happen in Q1 which will give me a good bit of the rest of the year to buckle down on the other goals.

Happy new year.

Happy Festivus

Happy Festivus. This is the only holiday post you’ll see from me. It’s the new christmas.

In case Festivus caught you unprepared this year, buy the pole in time to celebrate next year.

Photo retouching

My father just put up a site that offers up his skills in photo retouching. He’s been a member of NAPP since day one and evidently had really bad hair a long time ago. It’s a little late for Christmas gifts (though if you have a scanner not too late), but you’ve probably got some old photos laying around somewhere. In my experience this is the sort of thing that blows away most [grand]parents–something they didn’t even know was possible.

Goody Goody success

Filed under: Personal | No Comments »

I finally made it to Goody Goody this week (after two unsuccessful attempts) and it was great. Well, the food was great at least. Service wise they won’t win a prize. Sorry to see it go!

Gorillaz

I’m ashamed to admit that I have been listening to Gorillaz lately. It’s animated, that’s pathetic. Why is it entertaining to me?

I’m a winner

The other day I got a call that I had won lunch for me and 15 friends at my favorite local pizza place. It turns out someone actually does win those business card drawings. Last night I won a free small nugget party tray from Chick Fil-A. It was online, so feel free to try yourself.

Now if I can just start winning things less food related and more cash related.
